Secrets of close embrace
The five secrets of close embrace according to Hsueh-tze Lee.
- Vertical lift.
- Opposites: Lead/follow exchange; focus forward while moving backward. Waiting mutually.
- Leg power to indicate intention.
- Centre to centre: moving through one’s centre and stay with partner’s centre.
- Maintain a comfortable embrace. After all, this is why we dance in close embrace, no?

Are you going to tease us with only the first three? 🙂
I would certainly add responsibility for your own weight, posture, and axis.
Hi Debbi,
They are all good points you mentioned. As a rough generalisation, secrets 1 and 5 in the list are more of the “static” features, while the other secrets deal with movement. Taking responsibility was discussed with secrets 4 and 5, while posture/axis was discussed as part of secret 1.
By the way, it was not my intention to make it into a teaser… 🙂 I had forgotten the other 2 secrets and had to go through the video we took from the workshops. Furthermore, I did not expect comments so soon!
