Music catalog

Over the past few months, I have been slowly digitising my Tango music collection. By the way, this is about my fourth – and hopefully the final – attempt at converting my Tango music collection into a digital format. Those of you who had experience in conscientiously converting and organizing any sizable music collection can surely appreciate that this can be quite a major undertaking, eg. the need to verify the tags, etc.

CD count

Seeing that Royce had put up the list of her huge music collection on her website recently, I decided to also update my list of CDs after some recent “acquisitions”. I was in fact quite shocked to realise that I have already amassed more than 60 CDs and that’s counting only the traditional, danceable CDs. If the cost of each CD averages to about SG$20 (more especially in the early days when such CDs were difficult to come by) each, then that works out to be… 😯

Create community music

Since the early days in my forays into the world of Tango, I have always had a keen interest in Tango music and learning the DJ’ing aspects. In fact, I do DJ often at practicas and can boast one of the larger music collections in our small community. Recently, the Tango DJ Blog (which is a rather provocative title for a site in my opinion…) had a story about creating community music. The rationale is that instead of having only a handful of people doing the hard work of collecting the music and then compiling playlists, an old Mac G4 has been made available as part of the DJ station. Now everyone can leave his/her playlists on one machine which can then be shared and critiqued.

The long road

Had just bought another 9 CDs to add to my not-so-small Tango collection recently. As a result, decided once again to seriously explore various options for digitising my collection. There are two main reasons for doing this: weight, and ease of access and search. After all, having to cart around about 50~60 CDs is no mean feat! 🙂
