Practicas
Not too long ago, was chatting to someone who had been to Taipei recently and heard some interesting information about the Tango community in Taiwan. As a result, decided to visit Tango Taiwan’s website and was quite impressed. Seems they are doing well and good luck to them!
Crossroads
After returning home from another reasonably successful (averaging about 20-25 people these days) weekly practica-milonga at the Porridge Club, cannot help but ponder this question: how best to take advantage of this momentum we seem to be building in order help our Tango community grow? Although it is satisfying to see people enjoying themselves, and at a regular venue, one thing is for sure, there is still much room for improvement in many of the basic techniques! In particular, most of the leaders have yet to acquire the proper navigational skills on the dance floor (myself included, at times) and show more consideration for other dancers sharing the same space.
Quick and easy
Completed a short workshop with Eric Jeurissen last night, who had been visiting Singapore for the past few days and is now in Beijing busy teaching again! I must admit, found more ‘little’ things I need to improve upon, again… However, it never ceases to amaze me that the longer I dance the Tango, the more subtleties and nuances I can discover in even the already familiar steps. It’s such a wonderful experience to walk and completely immerse yourself in the Tango music, and let the rhythm carry you and your partner through the dance.
Now, I just need to get ready before the next group of overseas instructors arrive.
