KL sojourn
The past weekend has been a long weekend in Singapore, due to the Singaporean National Day (9 August) falling on a Monday. In view of this, a number of Singaporean tangueros and tangueras decided to go up to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, which is a mere 330 km away, to sample the milonga held on Saturday night, 7 August.
Now, while some of more organised of the group had booked coaches and accommodation in advance, sadly I was not as disciplined. I (and three other friends) made the decision to go to the milonga on Tuesday, and after some searches on the internet and quite a few unsuccessful phone calls, finally managed to secure accommodation and return transportation. And so, the trip was on!
Fortuitous
Just returned from a wonderful night of dancing at our regular Tuesday milonguita at Xen Bar.
In fact, I am quite glad now that I did not manage to leave earlier (just before 11pm) as there weren’t many people up till that time. Tonight’s milonguita was delayed due to the workshop by Gladys/Ricardo at the same venue, and most of my friends who were at the workshop did not return from dinner till after 11pm.
Tango buffet
When you go to a buffet, despite all the goodies, you don’t eat everything on offer, right?
Similarly, at a milonga, one does not need to dance to every song being played. I dance only to what moves me, from the inside. Nothing more, nothing less.
Milonga & connection
Had the long-awaited milonga at the History Museum last night. Actually, there was a few excuses for the party – not that they were needed, mind you. For example, there was the official Tango day (11 December), some birthdays, and it’s (close to) Christmas after all!
Despite a few mishaps even before the event got under way, e.g. some dreaded tomatoes, and the caterer getting lost, really happy to say that the milonga was well-attended. Roughly half of the people were relatively new-comers to our Tango scene. In fact, many people stayed right up till the finish, which was 2am! Of course, thanks must go to the museum staff for staying behind and allowing us to go on well past the originally agreed time.
