Tandas list

Updated my Tango tandas list. Hopefully this can help anyone who is beginning to compile songs for Milongas, just as I have benefited greatly from Stephen Brown’s advice when I started building a collection of Tango music. I guess this is really mainly for new Tango communities, since professional DJs surely have no need for my advice!

Leadership

The question of leader/follower in Tango has been on my mind recently. Issues like the ‘intention’, who initiates, leader following the follower, etc., become familiar and thankfully clearer concepts after a while.

At the same time, at the work place, leadership is also an important topic. However, and rather strangely in hindsight, up till now, have not really connected the two perspectives of leadership.

Tango buffet

When you go to a buffet, despite all the goodies, you don’t eat everything on offer, right?

Similarly, at a milonga, one does not need to dance to every song being played. I dance only to what moves me, from the inside. Nothing more, nothing less.

Performance anxiety

Recently, attempts to form a performing troupe have taken a big step forward. With the backing of a local dance studio Jitterbugs, things are finally rolling and we had a first meeting last Sunday. Surprisingly and bucking the trend, there were more men than women.

Obviously, I am always keen to promote Tango and help the community grow. Why? The simple answer to that is, “because I enjoy it and I want to share my passion!” By most accounts, “sensationalising” by performances is a good way to achieve decent exposure, as well as attract new-comers.
